Semen Cryopreservation
- Semen cryopreservation is the process of collecting, freezing, and storing sperm for future use. The frozen sperm can be thawed and used for fertilization in artificial reproductive techniques like IUI and IVF.
- At PFRC, we collect semen samples from men in a small, clean container. Specimens can be taken at PFRC Collection Facilities or elsewhere as long as they are brought to the lab within 45 minutes of ejaculation.
- You can also bring your wife with you for this process. We have four special collection rooms that will be a good and comfortable place for you to get a sample of your sperm.
- You can call our team directly if your situation calls for different arrangements. We will see what we can do.
Who is semen cryopreservation for?
Semen cryopreservation can be done
- for couples where the husband cannot be present during the day of egg retrieval
- for men who have to go through chemotherapy
- for people who have trouble getting a sample of semen
Semen can be kept for a long time as long as it is periodically updated. About 2 years after your treatment or after having a baby, you should get another semen study. You can stop storing your semen if the semen analysis results are good.
Semen screening
Before storing semen, it is important to do screening tests like semen culture, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV (AIDS) to reduce the chance of viral contamination.
At PFRC, we test the semen of all men who opt for semen freezing to prevent any illness from passing to the next generation.
